Anti-World Star Hip-Hop

If I can be completely frank and blunt...What idiot created this website? No seriously??

I feel like black people already carry the stigma of being...black so why would we need something like this to make it even harder for us to accumulate a more positive reputation? I mean think about...Have you heard of any other race that has a website dedicated to make them look like fools?

It's sad...It's just really sad because we'll sit there and support this kind of non-sense from people fighting in public to people twit picing the most ridiculous fashions. How can we expect to gain respect from other races when we can't even respect ourselves? Please do better people! Because you're making it harder for people who are trying to shed positive light on African-Americans.

I Heart Spring Break!: Key West, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica!

Yes! Spring is here! It's the season for pretty pastels, beautiful blossoms and of course VACATION! While most of my colleagues took the typical trip to Panama city for Spring Break I had the luxury of going on a cruise! Now the only reason I semi feel the need to brag about this is because while many people thought they couldn't afford to take a trip like this...they really could!

It's an unfortunate phenomenon that seems to happen every semester: Students get there refund check or "net check" and BLOW IT on all kinds of ridiculousness. Some people go straight to the mall, some people go to the club every weekend, WHATEVER! NOT ME!

Traveling is something that I have become extremely passionate about; especially international travel. My Family was fortunate enough to be able to expose me to it, so it was no surprise that I would end up loving it! This years destination(S): Key West, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica!

It was definitely a wonderful experience! From snorkeling with 4ft Tarpons (fish) to climbing the beautiful Dunns Riverfalls, international travel is something everyone should have the opportunity to experience! So before you go blowing that check, make the vision, plan ahead and go through with it! I see a safari, Congo drums and Pyramids in my future...do you?

I'm on a "Self Improvement" Diet

Forgive me! I know it's been a while!!

To be honest, for the past few months I’ve actually been soul searching and trying to figure out how to better prioritize my life! As I’ve been approaching the last few months of my sophomore year a lot of things have been coming into prospective. As time flies I’ve been figuring out a lot about myself and in doing so I can’t help but envision my future.

The beautiful thing about college is you’re surrounded by so many windows of opportunity. You’re surrounded by so much inspiration; and not only that…You’re surrounded by motivated individuals who, just like you, are trying to create a better future for themselves!

With all that being said, last semester as I began to settle into my major (PR) I was a little concerned. It seemed like everyone around me was so ahead of me, which initially, made me a little anxious to get a head. So in this endeavor to “get ahead” (or at least catch up with everyone else) I started seeking out interns, clubs/organizations, and classes to better myself for the ultimate competition…getting a job duh!!

In doing so, I came across an awesome opportunity (at least for my area of study); a camera editing training. I look forward to learning the necessary skills of camera editing and eventually earning a certificate to not only pass one of my required classes, but also to have something pretty snazzy to put on my resume.

As of now (as in the first day) the class seems relatively interesting. Blogging is one of the assignments we are required to do in order to pass the class, along with creating a production package.

I guess one of the more exciting things about the class is that it’s actually taught by college students so hopefully I won’t have to press snooze control. They may even understand that homework should have some type of significance beyond keeping students busy from other important things in life…like blogging J

5 Things I Wish Guys Would Stop Doing

1. Wearing Do-Rags in Public
Yes fellas, we love your waves!! But do-rags became don't- rags a looong time ago! Save it for bed time, you don't want to see us running aroung with our satin bonnets and scarf on in public and we don't want to see it your funky head dresses either. It's just tacky *smh*.

2. Sagging Pants
This fashion has always been a no-no ,but as I look around campus, things have just been getting OUT OF CONTROL! Not only are guys exposing their backsides, but front sides as well! I don't need to see the outline of your butt, it's crack, or anything else you maybe stashing down there!
Now I'm not saying you have to go Urkel, but have a little respect for yourself and for us ladies too.

3. Confessing They Liked Us at the Last Minute
Why is it that guys wait until graduation, we have a boyfriend, or we're moving cross country
to tell us that they like us? Come on! LoL majority of the time we're totally into you so
just put on your big boy pants and say something already!

4. Simply put...LYING
The world would be such a better place if guys stop lying! If you cheated just come out and
say it, especially if your girl has proof that you did! If your trying to do a
"Hit and Run" admit it! Lying not only jacks up communication (whether your in a relationship or not), but it
also wastes a lot of time on our part and on yours. And you never know,
sometimes our agendas aren't too far off from yours...(emphasis on the sometimes!) lol

5. Being Cheap
I have to be extremely careful with this one I know =) lol! This is not to say that we're "Gold Diggers" ,
but every once in a wild a lady likes to be treated like...well a lady. We're not asking
you to spill your whole bank accounts out to us, but we want to feel special. You can sit in your
room and watch movies with your homies anytime, you probably go to McDonald's every other day.
Extraordinary moments don't go unappreciated. The guys who have GOOD game are
the ones who know how to stretch their cash and spend it wisely. =)

I Am MORE Than a "Female"

Maybe I'm overreacting and being a bit of a feminist ,but for the past year it's really been grinding my gears about how guys and even some girls have been casually throwing around the word "female". Have you noticed that nobody really uses it in association with something positive? It's often accompanied by a bad statement. I've never heard anyone say " I love that female" but more often I hear "I can't stand females" or "Stop acting like a female". It's almost like people are are using this F word to censor the B word.
By saying "female" a person can be referring to a dog, a hippo, or an ape; why can't people just say girl, or  woman or better yet, lady.

I've never heard a woman call a guy a "male" so where do people get off referring to us as females?
Like we are nothing more than a gender? Ladies, stop letting men and even other women belittle you.

We are beautiful, we are strong, we are smart and more important, we are human beings. I am more
than a female...Can I get a girl me too?

I Smell a Natural Hair Movement!

About a year and a half ago when I announced to my world that I was going natural everybody thought I had lost my mind! Therefore, I can't help BUT get excited every time I spot a freshly chopped TWA (teeny weeny afro) on campus! Over the past year it seems like natural hair has taken communities by storm and I'm very curious to know why! Even though I am apart of this phenomenon I know that I decided to go natural for my own personal reasons (When i went natural no one else seemed interested. As a matter of fact when I was growing my hair out, everyone else seemed to be sewing hair in!). So what exactly is it now that's making a lot of ladies stray away from the straight and curve more towards the curls? Is it just a trend that will die out in about a year? Or are black women finally embrassing their true God given identities? (below: my natural hair)

Uh oh! Do I smell a mini Doc coming on? LoL! We'll definitely be getting more into the natural word because I'm crazy interested! Can I get a girl me too?

P.S. Are you natural, transitioning, or thinking about going natural? Check out my YouTube channel full of my natural hair story, style ideas, and hair care tips!! www.youtube.com/relaxed2natural

Forever21 Encourages Teen Pregnancy?!

This summer I was fortunate enough to get a job at Forever21! I must admit, before working there I often strayed away because I felt like the apparel was a little over priced personally. After starring at the clothes for at least 6 hours a day my feelings changed quit a bit...their prices are actually pretty reasonable! I mean you can't beat $9.50 jeans! Nevertheless I enjoyed working with individuals that where in my age group and the friendly employee discounts; however, the company's latest controversy has been everything but appealing to me. News stations and local papers have been flying off the wall about the trendy store's latest line geared towards pregnant women; claiming that it encourages teen pregnancy.

Now maybe I'm a little bias because of my work experience there, but I honestly think this is ridiculous! First, working at Forever21 completely opened my eyes to the fact that EVERYBODY shops there!! It really is a store that caters to everyone from preteens to middle-aged woman and older. I'd also like to include the fact that Forever21 has a children's line for both girls AND boys(HTG81), a plus-sized line (Faith), AND they've recently came out with a line for men (21Men). I don't remember anyone claiming that a line for children would take away children's childhoods nor that it would be inappropriate for certain trends to be sold to women with extra curves so why should it be any different in this case? MOREOVER it's not even being sold in certain states! So why are people starting such an uproar when it won't even apply to their regions? Come on media...get your facts straight =)....

Preggers have a right to fashionable clothes too! I support Forever21's innovative business decision! Can I get a "Girl me too!"??
